Of all the people I know personally, I am the biggest advocate / lover of Apple products. Anyone that knows me would tell you that I am a mac fanatic. I have 2 mac pro’s, a macbook pro, and a powerbook, one display of each size (20″,23″,30″), and a plethora of peripherals. Heck, I’m even signed up as an Apple developer and get the developer new’s letters. BUT, every now and then, I do come across something about Apple that I think could be improved and even sometimes, something I don’t like. Most recently, I am left with a dissatisfied taste in my mouth because of my broken wireless mighty mouse. Now, on top of being an Apple fanatic, I am also VERY cautious and take great care of everything that I own. Sometimes I even bother my wife with how fanatic I am about being careful with the things that we own. I am by no means hard on things. That is why I was so surprised when my mighty mouse broke, the first time it was ever dropped. I understand that the beautiful mouse was not intended to be dropped. But then again, neither are cell phones, which I would consider a much more fragile piece of technology than a simple wireless mouse. And I have never broken a cell phone in the past 5 years that I’ve had one, and carried it with me everyday. And even though I would consider myself one that is good about not breaking things, I have dropped a cell phone a fare share of times.. So naturally, I would expect that my mighty mouse should be able to with stand an occasional drop or two. But noooooooo, it breaks on me, beyond use, the first time it ever met the floor. My guess is that the added weight of the batteries inside caused it to hit with more force than it could handle. But one might think that Apple would test such a drop, as might be common for a wireless mouse. It makes sense to me that a wireless mouse would see much more travel time than a corded mouse. In fact, that is the only reason I had this mouse.. To use with my laptop when I was traveling, because I HATE using the laptop touch-pad mouse. And if you were to test wear and tear on a wireless mouse, why wouldn’t you test it with the batteries in?
Maybe I just had a freak occurrence, and my “Mighty” mouse hit in just the right spot, at just the right velocity, in just the right weather conditions to make it fall apart as you can see in the pictures. But I’m guessing, this is not the case, and the Mighty Mouse is in fact, not so mighty. –kenny
